Tourism and hospitality businesses in Letterkenny and surrounding areas are invited to get behind a new tourism partnership for the town. Go Visit Letterkenny aims to market Letterkenny as the heart of the northwest, positioning it as the ideal hub for visitors to the county.Run in partnership with the business community in Letterkenny, the initiative is being supported with a marketing and PR budget, while a dedicated website – govisitletterkenny.ie – will provide visitors with all the information they need to experience the best of rural and urban Donegal. Later this month, the Go Visit Letterkenny group will host a breakfast morning to encourage new members to sign up. Taking place in the Silver Tassie Hotel, Letterkenny on Thursday, 30th March from 9.30 – 11am, the breakfast morning is a unique opportunity for businesses in Donegal to find out how joining the website can benefit them. Anyone interested in working in partnership to increase tourism numbers to Letterkenny and Donegal is invited to attend.Ciaran Brogan has been involved with the group since its formation and he believes Letterkenny and the surrounding areas will benefit from adopting a partnership approach: “2017 looks set to be a bumper year for Donegal tourism and we want businesses in Letterkenny and the surrounding area to capitalise on that. Govisitletterkenny.ie is about giving businesses a platform to showcase their services to tourists and locals alike.“We know that collaborating in this way has worked well in other regions and our vision is to develop the website into a comprehensive resource where visitors to the town can access all of the information they need to experience the best of the northwest.”“We already have some great partners on board and we’re looking forward to growing our membership and building on the work done to date. To this end, I would encourage anyone working in the tourism and hospitality industry, including key stakeholders, to attend the breakfast morning on March 30th to find out how working together in this way can benefit the region,” he added. Last year tourism in Ireland hit a record high with 9.6 million arrivals and Go Visit Letterkenny wants to bring more of these visitors to Donegal. The group believes that the wider economy will benefit from encouraging visitors to experience the heart of the northwest by staying in Letterkenny, including the retail sector, bars, restaurants, cafes and tourist attractions.Guest speaker at the breakfast morning is Shane Smyth of Bundoran Tourism, who will share his insights and experiences of how businesses working together can encourage more visitors to an area.At the event, there will also be an opportunity to speak to a number of local businesses and organisations who have already signed up to the project.
