Re April 24 article, “Community raises money for police chief and family” by reporter Andrew Beam: The article described local community efforts to raise money for Scotia Police Chief Peter Frisoni and his family (wife and five children) after a devastating fire destroyed their home on April 6. It was nice to see this article, which publicized how much money had already been raised and ways for individuals in the community to donate funds to help the Frisoni family replace their home and their personal belongings. However, I was appalled to see that Mr. Beam felt the need to mention in the article how much money the police chief currently earns in salary at the village of Scotia and how much money he currently earns through a retirement pension from the Schenectady Police Department. Was Beam trying to suggest that the Frisoni family didn’t need the money? I’m an active member of one of the volunteer fire departments that responded to the fire and although I was out of town and couldn’t respond that day, I’ve seen the effects of many house fires in my 27 years with the fire department. It’s a family’s worst nightmare. No amount of money can replace many of the personal belongings and memories associated with one’s home, especially with five children involved. The Gazette should be ashamed of itself and offer the Frisoni family a public apology. Please consider donating funds for the Frisoni family through “The Chief’s Account” at the First National Bank of Scotia.K.
