Following the gruesome murder of a Corentyne labourer late Saturday night, Police have arrested one of the suspects who has since confessed to the crime. They are currently seeking his brother, who is believed to have fled the country.The suspect goes by the nickname “Saltfish”.Reports are the duo killed Anand Sookram, also called “Radesh” and “Halfway” atDead: Anand Sookramhis Lot 50 Friendship, Corentyne, Berbice home on Saturday evening. The 42-year-old labourer’s body was discovered in a pool of blood on his bed about 07:30h on Sunday morning with his throat slit.Guyana Times was told that the deceased man’s 17-year-old son made the gruesome discovery after he went to check on his father.According to the teenager, when he arrived at his father’s house, the door was open and after calling and receiving no answer, he ventured inside, only to see blood on the floor. The teen said he realised something was amiss and ventured to his father’s bed where he saw his motionless body lying in a pool of blood. The 17-year-old related that he then raised an alarm and neighbours and other relatives gathered. The Police were subsequently summoned.This newspaper was told by a neighbour that screams were heard coming from Sookram’s house. According to a neighbour, the man was shouting a particular name, which has since been related to the Police. However, despite his screams,The house in which Sookram was killedno one went to his assistance.The dead man’s brother Alan (only name given) told this publication that on Saturday night he saw the two suspects on the road, adding that they had previously threatened to kill his brother over an old grievance.According to Allan, on he was also threatened by the brothers previously.‘“All you nah get long moh to drop; one all you got to dead before this year out,’” he related was the threat to him.Sookram had moved from the house after the brothers threatened the family, but returned on Friday.Police were able to arrest the prime suspect, who has since admitted to committing the crime. However, even as the other suspect remains on the run, another son of the dead man, a 14-year-old, said he had a frightening encounter with the “Raju” since the incident.He said he and some of his siblings and friends were on the road when the wanted suspect was passing by and he called out to him saying he was going to kill him. The 14-year-old said he ran away. The incident has since been reported to the Police.Meanwhile, another son of the now dead man had one of his ears severed two years ago by the suspect who is in custody.Sookram leaves to mourn seven children, a wife, his mother and several siblings.

The study found that the top 50 corporate brands in South Africa were valued at approximately R1.5-trillion, with many of these companies also contributing to national priorities such as uplifting identified and targeted communities.Retail group Woolworths and First National Bank are the strongest brands in South Africa for 2014/2015. The cellphone network MTN is the Top Valuable Brand in the country.Brands are assetsIkalafeng said brands had become more than just a logo or slogan. “They are now seen as corporate assets which are amongst the most valuable that an organisation can have. By extension, national corporate brands also contribute to a nation’s assets in terms of the value they add to the country – both in terms of (gross domestic product) as well as reputational impact,” he said.“The brand managers and executives who oversee and manage these brands therefore play their part to contribute to corporate profitability and visibility and we at Brand South Africa and Brand Africa Finance salute you.”Sydney Mbhele, divisional executive: group marketing at Nedbank, and Peter Mancer, chief executive officer of the company Diversity Management, were among the guests at the event. One of these factors (is) national corporate entities,” said Makhubela.“Your excellence in the corporate field contributes immensely to the strength and positive reputation of the South African nation brand. Downplaying the desertion of three MLAs and dozens of councillors from three municipalities in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress leadership on Tuesday described it as a “temporary phase in politics”. Trinamool leaders addressed a press conference in Kolkata.Among the MLAs who joined the BJP on Tuesday were BJP leader Mukul Roy’s son Subhrangshu, Roy elected from Bijpur on Trinamool ticket; Tushar Kanti Bhattacharya from Bishnupur, who won the polls in 2016 on Congress ticket and later switched sides to Trinamool; and Debendra Roy, an MLA of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Hemtabad. All MLAs are from south Bengal.In the Kancharapra, Halishar and Naihati municipalities in North 24 Paraganas district in south Bengal, where BJP leader Mukul Roy grew up and started his political career, the BJP is now in the driver’s seat.Meanwhile, a number of councillors in the Bhatpara municipality joined the BJP, making the balance tilt in favour of the saffron party. Arjun Singh, the Trinamool leader who joined the BJP shortly before the Lok Sabha election, orchestrated the desertion in Bhatpara, where he was the municipal chairperson till recently. Elections to the civic bodies in the State are scheduled for 2020, a year before the State goes to the polls. “This is no crisis at all. I refuse to call it a crisis when some opportunists have switched sides. We are keeping an eye on the situation,” Tapas Roy, Trinamool leader and chief whip in the Assembly, said. Trinamool leaders, including former Minister Madan Mitra and North 24 Parganas district party president Jyotipriya Mullick, attended the press conference and said a number of party offices of the district have been occupied by the BJP. “People of West Bengal are firmly with Mamata Banerjee. Today, only 2 of our 221 MLAs went to the BJP. One of them is the son [of Mukul Roy], a step in the right direction for BJP to encourage dynastic politics,” a tweet from the official Twitter handle of the Trinamool said. Meanwhile, stray incidents of post-poll violence were reported in the State. At Canning in State’s South 24 Paraganas district, a Trinamool activist was attacked allegedly by BJP workers. State Minister Rabindranath Ghosh was heckled by BJP supporters in Cooch Behar. A few days ago, Forest Minister Bijoy Krishna Barman’s vehicle was attacked in north Bengal.
