Berbice pensioner killed by speeding car on pedestrian crossing

first_imgA pensioner was on Tuesday morning killed after she was struck down while using a pedestrian crossing at Nigg Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. DeaThe car that was involved in the fatal accidentDead: Parbattie Ramsarrand is 81-year-old Parbattie Ramsarran of Lot 4 D Nigg, Corentyne, Berbice.Based on information received, the motorcar bearing registration number PPP 1008, driven by a 29-year-old male at a fast rate of speed, came into contact with the woman as she was in the centre of the pedestrian crossing.As a result of the impact, the woman sustained severe injuries about her body. She was picked up and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.The driver was taken into custody as Police continue their investigations. Her body is presently at Ramu’s Funeral Home awaiting a Post-Mortem.At the home of the dead woman, her son, Jaichan Persaud Balkarran, explained that his mother had gone to the post office to uplift her pension while adding that when he is at home, he would normally accompany her.“I went out after her and about fifteen persons been at the post office…so I decided to wait at the bus shed fuh she… and I saw her walking out and but the time I look away someone under the bush shed, tell me, ‘ look something happen’… when I turn around I see my mother lie down in the middle of the road.”He said as he approached, he observed that she was motionless but he was assisted by the driver to take his injured mother to the hospital.“Me and the Chinee boy who went in the car and some other people who went around pick she up and put she in the same car and carry she to the Port Mourant Hospital. The doctor sound her and then tell me that she dead,” he said as he broke down in tears. He added that his mother was a good person and did not have to die in that manner.The Police are continuing their investigations. The woman leaves to mourn her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren among other relatives and friends.last_img read more
