(AP Photo/David Goldman, File)WASHINGTON — Washington Wizards point guard John Wall is not planning to change his style whatsoever when he returns from his latest knee surgery — whenever that might be.“I’m just going to be John Wall,” he said Monday after the second full-contact practice of his comeback from an operation on Jan. 31. “That’s all I know how to do.”ADVERTISEMENT “It’s been good. It’s been bad. We’ve played well, at times. Sometimes, we haven’t played well. Like when everybody was saying that they (were) playing better without me, that was great. The good thing is, I’m glad we did we did win those games when we did, because if we didn’t, right now, we would be in a situation where we might not be in the playoffs,” Wall said. “I feel like everybody should have given those guys credit for playing well.”Wall’s session with reporters on Monday was his first in Washington since having surgery on his left knee. He said he lost about 10 or 15 pounds during his rehab, without intending to.The No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft out of Kentucky had surgery on both of his knees before last season. This time, Brooks said, Wall has been able to do pretty much everything as usual in his pair of full-fledged practices, including dunk.“He’s getting his rhythm back. He can get to gaps and seams and angles not a lot of guys can get to. There’s only a handful of guys — maybe not even that — that can do it in the NBA,” Brooks said. “He’s one of the best players in the league.”ADVERTISEMENT Markelle Fultz returns to lineup for 76ers Conor McGregor seeks to emerge from controversy in UFC comeback Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. Washington has lost three consecutive games heading into Tuesday night against the visiting San Antonio Spurs; coach Scott Brooks said Wall will not play in that one.“It’s getting close. He’s had two really, really good days. His energy level is high. He’s anxious. You can tell. He wants to get out there,” Brooks said. “We still want to be patient.”FEATURED STORIESSPORTSGinebra beats Meralco again to capture PBA Governors’ Cup titleSPORTSAfter winning title, time for LA Tenorio to give back to Batangas folkSPORTSTim Cone, Ginebra set their sights on elusive All-Filipino crownWashington has dropped to sixth in the Eastern Conference at 40-33 and will only have eight games remaining after facing the Spurs. The Wizards are 14-11 without Wall during his current absence — he last played on Jan. 25 — and 19-17 overall this season without him. PHP Captures LFA Inaugural Beach Soccer Tournament

first_imgThe inaugural beach soccer tournament, organized by the Liberia Football Association, ended yesterday with PHP Beach Soccer defeating Power Plant Beach Soccer team 4-3 on penalties in the finals at the Serie A sports pitch in West Point, Monrovia. Both teams defeated their opponents in the preliminary round on Saturday. PHP beat Buzzi Quarters and Power Plant defeated Ambassadors. The two losers played for the third place with Ambassadors beating Buzzi Quarters 5-2.The venue of the game is also known as LEC Plant Sports pitch. The two-day tournament was held on April 30 and May 1.The four teams were PHP Beach Soccer team, Buzzi Quarters Beach Soccer team, Ambassadors Beach Soccer team and Power Plant Beach Soccer team. There were no restrictions on players in any division of the regular LFA league. Two referees handled each game and helped the players to apply the rules. Each team had five players per game, described as five a side, and substitutions were made. The game is played barefoot and it takes much effort to manage through the sand to overcome an opponent.Though there are certain rules different from regular soccer, the two-day competition saw players from the participating teams enjoying the game and pushing their opponents with passes and shots that goalkeepers struggled to punch off-target. For example, Power Plant Beach Soccer, which is from West Point, seemed to have some advantage because they have always played in the sand but they were marched with others who have always played on the beach.LFA vice president for operations, Musa Shannon, responsible for Beach Soccer, was present, along with LFA technical director Henry Bown, his deputy Kaetu Smith and CAF Education officer Coach Francis Tamba.Liberia has registered to participate in the CAF Beach Soccer Tournament to be held in Nigeria, later this year, and the LFA said more games are planned for local beach soccer teams.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
